The BCFI: Building Child and Family Initiatives, Inc. (formerly the Black Child and Family Institute) has served children, youth and families in the Greater Lansing area for almost 30 years. Now approaching their 30th anniversary, the focus areas are on four primary areas; the Arts, STEM, Literacy and Fitness.

To highlight BCFI’s promotion of the arts, one of our “BCFI kids” is returning to Lansing to perform a benefit fundraiser.  Melissa White, violinist extraordinaire, will join Detroit pianist and vocalist, Alvin Waddles, for An Evening of Artistic Excellence.   Both are internationally renown artists.  Melissa attended Lansing Public Schools.  Her first global experience was at the age of five years old, as a part of BCFI’s Global Language and Culture Program co-sponsored by MSU ‘s Department of Romance and Classical Languages.  Alvin Waddles, who often performs with the Detroit Opera Company and the Rackham Orchestra and Choir, recently performed in A Garden of Joy at the Wharton Center.  Both artists are classically trained and play all genres of music.
