In a couple of days, a brand new Heritage Jazz Festival kicks off in Michigan with FREE music performances in two different cities. On Saturday afternoon, September 10th, the greater-Lansing community can enjoy local, regional and international talent from the stage of the Lake Lansing Park Amphitheater in Haslett. About 100 miles away and a day earlier, a similar event will be held in Grand Haven.
The event will bring “some awesome music to the area that is FREE” said festival founder and Heritage Productions president Charles Nevett who retired from radio broadcasting after more than 25 years.
“There’s a market for contemporary jazz in both Lansing and Grand Haven” said Nevett who developed an appreciation for jazz from listening to his father’s vinyl collection in the basement as a kid and seeing a void in radio stations who play smooth jazz.
The Haslett festival features,
- × Lord Yancyy, a multi-faceted instrumentalist with impeccable styling and artistic charisma on sax.
- × Saxman Tim Cunningham has a unique and riveting sound that allows listeners to feel the music.
- × 496 West has drawn praise among concertgoers for its Lansing-based rhythm; keys, vocals, horns, strings.
- × Guitarist, Hiro Homma lives in Brooklyn, New York and is from Sagamihara-shi, Kanagawa, Japan
- × The WayStation band debuted earlier this year in Lansing and features rhythm, horn and electric guitar.
