April is Jazz Appreciation Month.

For ten years running, the Smithsonian (National Museum of American History) has designated the month of  April as Jazz Appreciation Month to encourage the recognition of  jazz as both an historical and a living treasure. The hope is to to encourage musicians, concert halls, schools, colleges, museums, libraries, and public broadcasters to offer special programs on jazz every April.

Visit the Smithsonian and find more information.  There is an interesting feature  about the International Sweethearts of Rhythm which was  founded in 1937 at the Piney Woods School in Mississippi.
